9 Story and Brown Bag Films Celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day

By March 12, 2019News

It’s Women’s History Month and on March 8th we also celebrated International Women’s Day, which in our office means CAKE and lots of it!

All our staff across 9 Story Media Group and Brown Bag Films in Toronto, Dublin and Manchester gathered to keep the annual tradition alive and celebrate the amazing women we get to work with every day.

We’re so happy our staff across the board took time to support IWD2019 and we wanted to share a few pics from the day with you.

Check out our Dublin team enjoying IWD cupcakes:

Manchester had two very special cakes decorated with their favourite animated female characters:

And last but not least, Toronto with four GIANT “Happy International Women’s Day” slab cakes. Yum!

This year’s International Women’s Day campaign theme was #BalanceforBetter.

“From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence. Balance drives a better working world. Let’s all help create a #BalanceforBetter.”

In a speech to the staff in Toronto, Vince Commisso, Founder & CEO, found the perfect quote to share with us about equality in the workplace and we couldn’t agree more!

“The test for whether or not you can hold a job should not be the arrangement of your chromosomes.” – Bella Abzug, American lawyer, U.S. Representative, social activist and a leader of the Women’s Movement

To embrace this theme we also wanted to highlight some of the women across our studios, see how they navigated their careers in the animation industry and what advice they have for others who wish to follow suit! Check out their inspiring stories and words of wisdom here
