9 Story Media group is thrilled to share that one of its newest animated series Let’s Go Bananas! has won an inaugural Velma Award. The Velma Awards are a new award program presented by out by The Rainbow Project. The Rainbow Project was born from the need to celebrate and elevate LGBTQ+ representation in Children’s Media. It is the organization’s mission to acknowledge the brave creators who push the boundaries of queer storytelling in order to produce positive mirroring for a new generation.
Let’s Go, Bananas! won the inaugural Velma Award for ‘Best Helping My Dad Propose to My Other Dad!‘ for the show’s season 1 episodes titled ‘The Big Pop/A Very Bananas Wedding.’ In the episode ‘The Big Pop,’ when Apple learns her Papa is planning to ask Daddy to marry him, she worries they’ll ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after without her. So, she plots to stop the proposal by pranking their romantic picnic! In ‘A Very Bananas Wedding.’ Papa and Daddy are getting married and Apple has offered to organise the big day. But when she throws them a surprise fairytale wedding, it turns into a fairytale fail!
Let’s Go, Bananas! was developed and produced by 9 Story Media Group with gorgeous animation from Brown Bag Films’ Toronto studio. The series is a feel-good celebration of the realities of family life; messy, joyful, chaotic, wonderful, and of course, totally BANANAS!
Let’s Go, Bananas! was created by award-winning writer and producer Tim Bain, creator of action-comedy series Kangaroo Beach and writer on hit children’s series including Bluey, PJ Masks, Thomas the Tank Engine and Aardman’s Epic Adventures of Morph. The show is inspired by Tim’s own family and features a community of three sweet and silly animal families, the Bananas (gorillas), Crockers (crocodiles) and Tiger-Zelles (tigers and gazelles). Let’s Go, Bananas! is also written by Tim and directed by Brown Bag Films’ own Matt Mitchell (Let’s Go Luna, Rosie’s Rules).
