9 Canadian Screen Awards Nominations for 9 Story & Brown Bag Films

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) has announced the nominees for the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards, and we are thrilled to share that our 9 Story and Brown Bag shows have racked up an incredible combined total of 9 nominations! The 13th annual awards celebrating excellence on-screen across 149 television, film and digital media categories, will be presented over three days in Toronto, ending with The 2025 Canadian Screen Awards, hosted by Canadian comedian Lisa Gilroy, streaming live in its entirety on Sunday, June 1 at 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT on the free CBC Gem streaming service.

Now on to our exceptional nominated series and nominees…

First up, our favourite Creature Adventurers the Wild Kratts (9 Story Media Group, Kratt Brothers Company) snagged not one, but two nominations. The series is nominated for ‘Best Animated Program or Series,’ rounding out the group of five outstanding nominated series including Unicorn Academy (Spin Master), Rubble & Crew (Spin Master), Camp Snoopy (WildBrain), and Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin (WildBrain). And the directing duo Martin Kratt and Louis Champagne are both nomination for ‘Best Direction, Animation’ for the Wild Kratts episode ‘Our Blue and Green World – Part 1.’

Our Wild Kratts directors are not our only 9 Story & Brown Bag Films honourees in the ‘Best Direction, Animation’ category, Rosie’s Rules director Heejung Yun and Paul Riley are nominated for their work on the episode ‘The Jalapeño Giant.’ Filling out the category are Mélanie Daigle for Camp Snoopy (WildBrain), Diana Basso and Joey So for Rubble & Crew (Spin Master Entertainment) and John Lei for Dino Ranch (Boat Rocker, Industrial Brothers.)

Our series also snagged up multiple writing nominations. In the category of ‘Best Writing, Animation,’ Kyah Green was nominated for their work on the episode “Straight from the Horse’s Mouth” from Open Season: Call of Nature and Lindsey Addawoo was nominated for their work on the episode “I Am Bessie Coleman” from Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum. Also nominated in the category are Roger Bainbridge for Doomlands, Josette Jorge for Galapagos, and Scott Montgomery, Robb Armstrong, Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz, and Cornelius Uliano for Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin.

Let’s Go, Bananas! scooped up a nomination for ‘Best Original Music, Animation’ by Matt Ouimet, along with Ian LeFeuvre for Builder Brothers Dream Factory, Graeme Cornies, Brian Pickett, James Chapple for PAW Patrol, Petteri Sainio for Rocket Club, and Graeme Cornies, Brian Pickett, James Chapple for Rubble & Crew.

Our Open Season: Call of Nature audio team made up of Rob Andres and Stephen Mullett received a nomination for ‘Best Sound, Animation,’ joining other category nominees Richard Spence-Thomas, Tim Muirhead, Anita Yung, Madelyn Southward, Kyle Peters, Katie Pagacz, Bethany Masters, Patton Rodrigues, Mitch Connors for PAW Patrol, Richard Spence-Thomas, Tim Muirhead, Kyle Peters, Bethany Masters, Luke Dante, Patton Rodrigues for Rubble & Crew, and Brendan Quinn, Tyler Tsang, Ethan Myers, Julian Rudd, Art Mullin, Drew Snyder, Levi Considine, Kevin Chamberlain, Chris Battaglia, Ryan Chalmers for Unicorn Academy.

Finally, we also want to congratulate our Open Season: Call of Nature voice talent for their nominations in the ‘Best Voice Performance’ category, including Joshua Graham who plays the character of Elliot on the series and Josette Jorge who voices the character of Giselle.

The 2025 Canadian Screen Awards will be handed out from Friday, May 30, 2025, to Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto. Nominees and winners will be celebrated alongside this year’s Special Award recipients in a series of five award shows, culminating with the finale: The 2025 Canadian Screen Awards, hosted by Lisa Gilroy, available live on CBC Gem.
