What’s Your Mantra?

Today, let’s talk about MANTRAS!

Some believe that mantras are older than language itself. By definition, a mantra is a word or sound repeated to aid in the concentration in meditation, but personal mantras are also known to be words or phrases that express someone’s basic beliefs.

In Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum, each of our heroes have a mantra that speaks to what they stood for and believed in. For example:

Today, we’re challenging you and your little hero to come up with your very own personal mantra! Like anything, a mantra can change with time, so don’t feel pressure to come up with something that lasts a lifetime. It is important to consider what you want your mantra to represent. Is it a goal, idea, concept or an emotion?

Those seem like big concepts for a little hero, so if your little one is having trouble ask them simple questions to help, such as:

  • What’s important to you right now?
  • If you could change something in the world, what would it be?
  • What do you want to do when you grow up?
  • Who is your favorite hero and why?

For some more inspiration, here are some great examples of mantras to get you started:

  • Be nice to everyone
  • Always be a leader
  • Stand up against bullies
  • Work hard and make history
  • A good sibling takes care of their brother/sister

Once you and your little hero have decided on a mantra, download THIS PRINTABLE and ask them to draw a picture of themselves, and include their mantra in the space provided.

While you may think your little one is too young to create a mantra, some of the best mantras can come from little minds who know fewer boundaries than adults. All heroes were little once and had big dreams that seemed impossible, only to realize it’s not impossible they just had to do it first!

On the other hand, your little one may look back at his/her mantras 20 years from now only to realize their main belief at the time was to protect their stuffies at all costs… and that’s OK too!

Don’t forget to share your mantras with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter using the #XavierRiddle hashtag!
