Hey friends! It’s October and one of Luna’s favorite holidays is JUST around the corner! Can your little adventurer guess what this holiday may be?
HALLOWEEN, you got it!
Ghouls and goblins, zombies and skeletons, no matter the costumer, Luna and her friends LOOOVE dressing up on Halloween!
As costumes come out, candy is purchased, and the little ones get all excited about good old trick-or-treating, we’ve compiled some quick tips to get you through this spooky season safely!
Dress your child in a light colored costume, or add reflective tape to their costumes and candy bags.
Your kids will attempt to collect as much candy as possible, running from door-to-door and street-to-street, which can sometimes be a scary thought for parents. Keep them safe, in sight, and visible to drivers with bright colored clothing and reflective tape.
Dress for the weather
October is fall season in North America, which means that temperatures are starting to drop and the weather gets quite chilly at night. It’s important to dress your little adventurer in a costume that is suitable for the weather they will be trick-or-treating in. Whether that means layers or a light jacket, think ahead parents! The last thing you want is for the little one to get cold and give up on all of that amazing candy you plan to snack on later while they’re asleep.
Avoid masks and use face paint instead
While masks are great, they can be harmful if they inhibit your child’s vision. As mentioned above, there will be cars on the road and you want to make sure that not only do the cars see your kids but that they can see the cars as well. Try face paint instead! There are great resources online to show you how to create really cool designs.
Accompany children under 12 years old
Whether you take your child out, or they go out with friends, be mindful that children under the age of 12 should be accompanied by one or more adults for safety purposes while trick-or-treating.
Remind your children to only visit houses with the front porch lights on and to never go inside anyone’s house.
It’s important to remind your children to only visit houses with lights on. We don’t want to disturb people who are not interested, but it could also be dangerous if it’s dark and you can’t see what’s going on near the house.
Go through your child’s candy before they eat it!
Gone are the days when you could eat the candy as you go. Parents, please check all of your child’s candy before they dig in. Sometimes, candy can be tampered with and it’s your responsibility to double check and ensure it is safe for your little one.
Hopefully these tips and tricks give you a little more insight as we move into this Halloween season.
