Be a Team Player with Xavier Riddle

Learning how to be a team player extends way beyond the world of sports. It is an important lesson that everyone can take with them no matter where they are in life. It is also a lesson that parents can teach their kids at a young age as it will help them work better with others, be more considerate of other people’s feelings and remind them to make sure no one is left out.

When Xavier, Brad and Yadina traveled through the Secret Museum, they met historical heroes who were known for their role in helping others. We’ll explore some of the lessons and experiences the friends had.

Jane Jacobs – Think about what everyone needs!

Jane Jacobs was an American-Canadian journalist, author, and activist who influenced urban studies, sociology, and economics. When Xavier, Brad and Yadina traveled back in time to meet Jane, she was designing a map for a city she was building.

She reminded the friends that it is important to think about what everyone needs! Jane Jacobs taught them important lessons in being thoughtful, and considerate of others. Parents can remind their little ones of this important lesson as they grow and begin to navigate the world around them!

Arthur Ashe – It’s better when we all play together!

Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. was an American professional tennis player who won three Grand Slam singles titles. Ashe was the first Black player selected to the United States Davis Cup team and the only Black man ever to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open. He retired in 1980.

When Xavier, Brad and Yadina traveled through the Secret Museum to meet Arthur Ashe, they asked if they could help him practice playing tennis. Even though none of them have ever played before, Ashe was happy for them to join since he said, ‘it’s better when we all play together.’ It’s a great lesson for parents to share with their kids now that summertime is approaching and they’re likely to be more out-and-about with their friends. Encourage them to make sure everyone is included and has an opportunity to participate!

Florence Nightingale – “It’s important to help others as best you can!”

Florence Nightingale, was an English social reformer and nurse. Nightingale helped train nurses during the Crimean War, in which they all helped care for wounded soldiers.

When the three friends traveled through the secret museum, Xavier and Brad turned to Florence Nightingale for help with curing Yadina’s hiccups. What they learned from this experience was that it is important to help others as best you can! Parents can encourage their little ones to be leaders like Florence Nightingale and extend a helping hand when they can!

Teamwork is such an important lesson for parents to instill in their young ones; it will help them so much in the long run. The main lesson here is to always lead with respect and kindness towards others.
