Caroling Around The World!

‘Tis the season! December is a joyous time of year across the globe and although this Holiday season may look different, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy these festive times with the ones you love at home. For many North Americans, December means Christmas and an important element of Christmas is singing carols. Luna and the Circo Fabuloso LOVE to sing and learn about music on their travels around the globe. Today we are learning about the history of Christmas carols and a few popular jingles from around the world!

Caroling originated in Europe many years ago by the Pagans. They danced and sang to celebrate the winter solstice or the shortest day of the year, which usually takes place mid-December. The word “carol” actually means dance or a song of praise!

Over the years the tradition of singing really carried through and caroling entered the Christian church. It is believed that the earliest Christmas carol was written in the year 1410!

Caroling has evolved over the years, in modern times people gather in public spaces to share songs or travel home-to-home and sing festive songs to spread holiday cheer. This year however is a little different, but households can surely gather together to sing joyful songs and boost Holiday spirit!

We’ve compiled a list of popular carols from around the world that you can sing-along to with your family. No matter what religion you practice or the Holiday you celebrate, singing with the ones you love will boost your mood. Luna, Andy, Carmen and Leo will be spending time with their households singing all of these fun carols!
