Hip Hip Hooray! Nature Cat has won a 2020 Environmental Media Association (EMA) Award in the category of Children’s Television for episodes “Soil Turmoil” and “Wisteria Hysteria”.

The EMA awards celebrate movies and television shows that harness the power of storytelling to call for environmental justice, climate action, and sustainability. This year’s ceremony, which pivoted to a virtual live event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, was held on Friday, August 21st via YouTube and Facebook, and was hosted by pop star, Lance Bass.

Nature Cat’s episodes “Soil Turmoil” and “Wisteria Hysteria” took top spot in the Children’s Television category, beating out the iconic series Sesame Street, and Disney’s popular Puppy Dog Pals.

Nature Cat—which follows a house cat named Fred, who dreams of exploring the great outdoors—is designed to reconnect children with the natural world, making engaging and age-appropriate nature education a sustaining part of their daily lives. In the now, award-winning episode “Soil Turmoil”, Nature Cat and crew learn about the importance of soil and how it is a critical resource for life – from the smallest microbe to the largest land plants and animals (including you!) – and in turn teach viewers how to keep it healthy by composting. In “Wisteria Hysteria”, kids learn about plants and pollination, examining how some plants create seed pods to carry their seeds long distances so they can take root in new growing destinations.
