Distribution Coordinator

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE: As a Distribution Coordinator, reporting to the Director, Distribution and Acquisitions/Chief Strategy Officer, your primary responsibility will be to support revenue generating opportunities and strategic partnerships of 9 Story Media Group’s Distribution team; provide sales support in order to optimize revenue and increase client satisfaction in all territories.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

DISTRIBUTION SUPPORT

  • FilmTrack- prepare customized availability reports, and enter distribution and acquisitions agreements, where needed
  • Project management of special projects to explore new revenue streams and business opportunities, as assigned
  • Prepare presentations for internal and external purposes (new business proposals, distribution slides for our town hall, client visits, etc)
  • Work closely with the Sales and Administration Assistant in Dublin to ensure smooth information sharing between the Dublin and Toronto offices
  • Coordinate meetings with international clients
  • Liaise with travel agents to make arrangements for the relevant members of the sales team
  • Help file and organize physical and digital distribution materials to ensure easy access and sharing for sales, marketing, and consumer products
  • Prepare hard copy and digital materials for the sales team to ensure they have the complete set of supporting tools for each trip
  • Liaise with Marketing before and after markets to maximize sales materials
  • Help assemble market shipments ensuring all distribution and marketing materials for exhibitor booths and suites are complete
  • Work collaboratively with Digital Team to implement best YouTube practices, where needed
  • Assist with programming the YouTube channels, where needed
  • Assist with other administrative matters, projects and digital tasks as required
  • Research broadcaster program schedules to increase third party producer satisfaction and aid consumer products sales
  • Assist with the review of potential acquisitions to help ensure the best series are acquired from an international perspective
  • Social media posting support, where needed

 

 

CLIENT SUPPORT

  • Act as point of contact to clients, and assist to strengthen our presence, knowledge and connections in those territories
  • Provide materials to clients for titles under evaluation
  • Act as a liaison between the client and internal departments to re-direct specific enquiries accordingly, ensuring a personalized customer service experience
  • Work closely with sales, marketing, and technical services to ensure that the Rights Trade screening room materials and all e-blasts are up to date and accurate
  • Quickly troubleshoot client issues in relation to evaluation materials

Recruitment Coordinator - Contract

We are 9 Story Media Group a leading creator, producer and distributor of kids and family focused content. Our award-winning Animation studio, Brown Bag Films, is globally recognized for creating best-in-class animated content such as Doc McStuffins, Wild Kratts and The Magic School Bus: Rides Again. We have an immediate opening for a Recruitment Coordinator to join our Toronto team. As the Recruitment Coordinator you will be contributing to the success of our Production and Corporate teams by assisting in finding exceptional talent for a variety of positions.

 

The Recruitment Coordinator will be responsible for:

 

  • Coordinate posting job ads on sites or social media platforms based on the type of position
  • Conduct high volume screening resumes
  • Perform phone screen interviews to assess suitability based on competency criteria, while providing an excellent initial candidate experience 
  • Maintain excellent records throughout all stages of the recruitment process
  • Setting up testing for production staff as required
  • Coordinate in-person interviews with candidates and internal hiring team
  • Conduct reference checks in accordance to company policies 
  • Other duties as required 

 

Required Qualifications 

 

  • 1+ years’ experience in a high volume recruitment environment 
  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with exceptional listening skills
  • Results oriented, with the ability to manage tight deadlines, multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced environment 
  • Strong follow-up and follow through
  • Strong motivation to learn and solid team player

Software Developer (TD)

9 Story Media Group is an industry leading creator, producer and distributor of award-winning animated and live action content for young audiences around the world. 9 Story has produced over 900 animated and live action episodes, seen on some of the world’s most respected children’s channels.

9 Story Media Group is looking for a Software Developer (TD) to collaborate in the creation and delivery of production-ready tools for its TV production pipeline. The Software Developer (TD) will work with the team to architect & develop production tools and supporting modules. In this role you will support the team with solving technical issues, automating Shotgun, rendering, as well as supporting the asset and shot production pipelines. Working with a centrally-managed Pipeline development team, you will work closely with the IT Manager to support and develop the pipeline and tools.

Other Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring industry best practices and standards to have a total understanding of the studio needs
  • Develop efficient, readable, commented code with Object Oriented programming best practices
  • Lead development and implementation of production pipelines for all studio productions
  • Author and maintain in-house documentation
  • Participate in 'post mortems' with production teams
  • Recommend solutions to ensure technical decisions are made in an efficient and timely manner to increase efficiency
  • Maintain the ongoing monitoring of current productions to ensure Pipeline stability
  • Design and maintain Pipeline technical project milestones
  • Identifying inefficiencies in the production Pipeline and propose and design solutions
  • Responding to Shotgun Helpdesk requests and provide 2nd level support to other team members
  • Consulting with Development and Technology departments in designing bespoke software
  • Mentoring and work closely with other technical directors

 

Required Skills:

  • 5 years+ experience analyzing, and developing Object Oriented Programming (C++, Python)
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Foundation Class and Standard C++ Library, (and related technologies XML, HTML, XSL, AJAX, JavaScript, Web services)
  • Knowledge of the SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) process, ITIL methodology, and Database management skills
  • Knowledge of Distributed Version Control Systems (git)
  • Knowledge of Linux and/or BSDs
  • A positive attitude in stressful situations

 

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with Shotgun
  • Experience developing clean and efficient User Interfaces
  • Tool development for Adobe products: eg Photoshop, Premiere
  • Familiarity with the 2D animation production process would be an asset
  • Experience with Toon Boom Harmony

Development Assistant

9 Story Media Group is a leading creator, producer and distributor of kids and family focused intellectual property. The company’s international distribution arm, 9 Story Distribution International represents over 2,700 half-hours of animated and live-action programming, seen on some of the most respected international channels and platforms. With offices in Toronto, Dublin, Manchester and New York, the 9 Story Media group of companies employ almost 600 creative and corporate staff.

 

We are currently looking for a Development Assistant to join our Toronto office to support our development teams in Toronto and Dublin. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Assistant would be responsible for providing administrative support within the department.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate administrative and clerical processes for the International Development Team members in Toronto, Dublin and liaise with the New York office
  • Maintain development resources and ensure files are kept up to date
  • Schedule departmental meetings for the Development Team and assist with schedule management for Director of Development
  • Coordinate market and festival schedules
  • Coordinating travel (flights, accommodations, meetings) for Development Team
  • Schedule meetings with creators, producers, artists, broadcaster representatives, and other studio departments etc. for Development Team
  • Book and set up boardrooms for meetings and remote conference calls
  • Take minutes during meetings and conference calls
  • Update databases of writers, agencies, artists
  • Create PowerPoint presentations for meetings
  • Work with Development Team and graphic designers to create presentation materials
  • Support the Director of Development and Development team with additional tasks and projects as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role supporting multiple executive team members
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

Digital Media Technical Specialist

9 Story Media Group is a leading creator, producer and distributor of kids and family focused intellectual property. We have a current opening for a Digital Media Technical Specialist to join our Toronto team to manage 9 Story’s digital media content library on YouTube and associated platforms. In addition to management of the assets, building strong relationships with third-party service providers and content partners you will be implementing best practices while optimizing channel growth.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years’ experience working with YouTube CMS or equivalent and be YouTube certified in Audience Growth and Digital Rights. In addition to the hard skills we look for team players who share our love of bringing high quality kids and family focused content to audiences around the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management of 9Story’s library of digital content on YouTube and associated platforms including thousands of assets, active reference files and active claims
  • Management of all digital rights inquiries and conflicts including reference file overlaps, potential claims, ownership conflicts to ensure maximum monetization and exploitation of IP
  • Building relationships with third-party service providers to ensure 9Story’s digital needs are met
  • Liaising with content partners and YouTube users to correctly adhere to contractual digital policies
  • Track, revise, and implement YouTube policies across all 9 Story’s brands
  • Using, and contributing to, best practices to ensure YouTube CMS(s) are organized and up to date. Including the implementation of swear filters, tags, custom IDs, asset labels, groups, etc.
  • Optimizing monetization and channel growth through monitoring of YouTube analytics and reports to develop strategies for further content exploitation
  • Successful tracking of YouTube algorithm and data optimization
  • Help edit and create content for YouTube channels
  • Crunch Ad Performance report; breaking down views/revenue by title, season
  • Ability and openness to working on multi-platforms, including but not limited to: Facebook, Dailymotion and others.
  • Work with the Technical Services department to keep on top of newly available reference material for ingestion into the YouTube CMS
  • Other tasks as needed and assigned by the digital team

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 2 years working with YouTube CMS or equivalent experience
  • Worked with a variety of video and digital assets
  • YouTube certified in Audience Growth and Digital Rights strongly preferred
  • Detail oriented and ability to work on tight deadlines
  • Adept at catching technical issues and enjoy the problem solving process
  • Proven experience in data optimization and analysis
  • Proficiency in excel
  • Experience working on digital platforms other than YouTube is considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working written knowledge of a foreign language an advantage but not a requirement

Working closely with management, the successful candidate will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, structuring, negotiating and advising on broad range of work including entertainment related and general commercial matters, M&A, strategic investments, acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships; undertaking related due diligence and clearance work; overseeing maintenance of corporate books; administering privacy and confidentiality policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • LL.B or J.D. and member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada;
  • 8 + years of corporate/commercial/entertainment experience in a major law firm or in-house;
  • Knowledge of Canadian and international television production and distribution industries, and Canadian regulatory framework and funding sources.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, organizational and communication skills;
  • Team player with ability to work independently and handle high volume of transactions on multiple projects.
  • Trade mark experience would be an asset.
